Mark Zuckerberg says Facebook is investigating whether trending
Mark Zuckerberg is chiming in, and he reiterates: There’s no evidence Facebook’s trending topic curators are suppressing conservative news.
Earlier this week, Gizmodo reported that contractors employed by Facebook to select trending news stories to present to Facebook users
regularly censored conservative news stories. With Facebook one of the largest drivers of traffic to news sites, the allegations were alarming, so much so that a US Senate committee launched an inquiry to look into the matter.
“We take this report very seriously and are conducting a full investigation to ensure our teams upheld the integrity of this product,” Zuckerberg wrote in a
Facebook post today. “If we find anything against our principles, you have my commitment that we will take additional steps to address it.”
Zuckerberg added that he plans to invite “leading conservatives and people from across the political spectrum” in the coming weeks to share their views.
